Welcome to Central Goldfields is a project which aims to not only help fill gaps in our current and future workforce, but also add to our cultural diversity.
Community and business leaders are partnering together on the pilot project which will see skilled migrants move to the Shire in the coming weeks.
As the community prepares to welcome the new residents, events that highlight the cultural diversity that already exists in the community are planned.
The Zonta Club of Central Goldfields will host ‘A Night in Nepal’ on Monday 12 September from 6pm at the Maryborough Golf Club which will raise funds for local projects, study grants and creating breast cushions for women recovering from surgery.
The event also marks 10 years since the inception of the group.
“Zonta aims to build a better world for women and girls, empowering them worldwide through service and advocacy. Locally we provide support through a number of initiatives including creating breast cushions, emergency night attire care kits, 16 days of activism, international women’s day and also our annual study grants,” group members said.
“We decided to host A Night in Nepal as our 10th anniversary dinner as not only an opportunity to come together and reflect on the achievements of the past decade but also saw it as a chance to host a multi-cultural event.
“We look forward to partnering with the Maryborough Golf Club to come together and celebrate our club and embrace the cultural diversity in our community.”
Maryborough Golf Club General Manager and Welcome to Central Goldfields Community Reference Group member John Sedunary said the night was an opportunity to celebrate multi-culturalism in the community while also supporting Zonta.
“We are really proud of our chefs, Sandesh Dallakoti and Anup Rijal, and the work that they do. They are really looking forward to showing off their talents in a different light as part of A Night in Nepal.
“Sandesh and Anup are an important part of the social fabric of our team – whether they are working hard and having a laugh with their co-workers or out on the golf course learning golf with others. I am very, very proud of them – as I am of all the team here.
“This night is a great example of how this community celebrates multi-culturalism and it’s a chance to shine a light on the diversity that already exists locally.”
“Yes, Welcome to Central Goldfields is about filling gaps in our local workforce, but it’s also about becoming more culturally diverse and this night is a great example of the community coming together to celebrate and embrace another culture.”
