Police are out in force to hold all drivers accountable for their actions during Operation Regal.
Boronia Tasking Unit members intercepted an alleged drink driver at a roadside breath testing site in Stud Road, Bayswater yesterday.
A 55-year-old Mount Waverley driver allegedly returned an initial positive preliminary breath test about 3pm.
When he exited his vehicle, police found what is alleged to be an open alcohol container in the driver side door.
He was conveyed to Knox Police Station where he returned an alleged evidentiary reading of 0.07.
He received two infringement notices totalling $806 and his license was immediately cancelled and disqualified for six months.
About 3am this morning, Operations Response Unit police set up a highly visible roadside breath testing site in King Street, Melbourne.
Within seven minutes a driver allegedly returned a positive preliminary breath test for alcohol.
The 33-year-old Scoresby man was conveyed to Melbourne West Police Station where he allegedly returned an evidentiary reading of 0.092.
He was issued a fine for $484 and his licence was suspended for six months.
The state-wide operation commenced on Friday 7 June and will focus on impaired driving, increased traffic on rural roads, towing trailers and caravans, and trail bike riding in state forests and parks.
Enforcement activities will vary across the state with police focusing on traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations including the high country (ski fields), Grampians and Lakes regions.
Operation Regal will run for four days from 12.01am Friday 7 June to 11.59pm Monday 10 June 2019.
