No Stopping Our Bus Stop Upgrades

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to upgrade transport infrastructure across the State with another 75 locations set to receive new or upgraded bus stops through the latest round of our state-wide All Access All Weather Bus Stop Upgrade Grant Program.

These upgrades are being delivered through the Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, said this third round would add to the more than 160 new or already improved bus stops on local roads funded through the first two rounds of the program.

“We’ve been working closely with councils around the State to identify priority bus stop locations so we can get funding out the door and work done on locations that will see the most benefit,” Minister Abetz said.

“Projects will range from new concrete footings, signage and tactile accessibility markings through to seating and full shelters in some locations.

“This round’s funding is again spread across the Sorell, Launceston, Northern Midlands and Burnie local government areas, demonstrating their shared commitment to improving the passenger transport experience for their communities.

“This round will see the Tasmanian Government funding coming to nearly $500,000 with council co-contributions taking the overall investment in bus stop infrastructure to around $700,000.

“This initiative has seen 240 upgrades undertaken and 28 new shelters constructed across the State.

“This funding has been spread across 11 local government areas and an additional $3 million has been allocated to improving stops on the state road network.”

Round four of the program is expected to open in mid-2025.
