Southern Mayors have joined Labor in voicing concerns about the Government’s handling of the proposed $576 million Bridgewater Bridge replacement.
Shadow Infrastructure Minister, Shane Broad, said it was yet another important infrastructure proposal that had been botched by the Hodgman Liberal Government.
“This Government is all talk and no action when it comes to infrastructure in this state,” Dr Broad said.
“Yesterday we see the Government celebrating yet another day of no real progress at Macquarie Point and today, we have the three greater Hobart Mayors expressing their concerns about its proposal for the Bridgewater Bridge replacement – and with good reason.
“Infrastructure Australia has sent the Government back to the drawing board by highlighting serious concerns with the proposal including unresolved engineering and design issues that could result in further cost blow outs.
“Michael Ferguson has failed to come clean about what these issues are, how much they will cost and where the money will come from when the state is already heading for $1.1 billion in debt.
“It took the Government five years to do a business case for this proposal and they still can’t get it right.
“This project is far too important to be jeopardised by a government that has failed to deliver a single major infrastructure project in five years.”
