Council is seeking nominations from Byron Shire-based community groups or individuals who’d like their town, village or suburb to be the next in line to develop a Place Plan. Application is via an to Council by 30 September 2022.
“The Place Planning process involves creating a vision for a town, village or suburb for the next 20 years to guide future growth and change,” Council’s Director Economy and Sustainability, Shannon Burt said.
Place Plans are usually developed collaboratively between community members and Council staff, sometimes with the involvement of a consultant.
“We’ve already completed Place Plans or Masterplans for Byron Bay, Bangalow, Mullumbimby, the Byron Arts and Industry Estate and Federal village which is currently being drafted,” Ms Burt said.
“We’re looking for the next suburb, town or village that wants to take part in this process,” she said.
Applications will be considered according to perceived need, community support for the project and suitability of the place planning process to address identified issues.
All expressions of interests will be reported to Council to decide the successful EOI to progress to the project scope stage.
Once the project scope is developed, it will be reported to Council and progressed according to operational priorities and project timelines.
