Nominations for Latrobe City Council’s 2024 Australia Day Awards are now open.
These Awards pay tribute to local individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.
Residents are invited to nominate community members, groups or events in Latrobe City that they think deserve recognition. Any individual or organisation can make a nomination and all eligible nominees are acknowledged.
Latrobe City Council Mayor Cr Kellie O’Callaghan encouraged the community to use the Awards as an opportunity to show special people from our City how valued and appreciated they are.
“We are very fortunate to have so many extraordinary people living here in Latrobe City, each truly devoted to making our City such a magnificent place to live,” said the Mayor.
“If you know of someone who shows leadership and a commitment to the collective wellbeing of our community, you should submit a nomination. It’s a chance for their achievements and efforts to be celebrated beyond their immediate circle and provides a beacon of inspiration to others in the community too.”
Several criteria are taken into consideration when selecting award recipients. The most common principle is to award a person, group or event that is helping to make Latrobe City a more connected, welcoming and vibrant place to live.
There are five award categories open for nominations:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
- Community Service of the Year.
To be eligible for Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year nominees must be an Australian citizen and must be a resident of Latrobe City.
To be eligible for the Community Service of the Year and Community Event of the Year Award nominated services or events must have been provided or held within the Latrobe City municipality.
Nominations close at 5pm on 10 October.
