Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick is calling on residents to recognise the outstanding contributions of friends, neighbours, colleagues and family for the 2025 local Australia Day Awards.
The awards include the Citizen, Young Citizen and Senior Citizen of the Year, and the Bega Valley Medallion.
“This is the perfect time to reflect on the past 12 months and send heartfelt thanks to those who make our community a better place,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
“With so many volunteers in the Bega Valley quietly helping others without hesitation, I’m certain there are countless individuals whose generous acts go unrecognised.”
The Mayor encouraged nominations for anyone who gives their time and energy to help others in need.
“This could be a friend, someone in a community group or sports club, or someone you know who is making a difference in the Bega Valley,” he said.
“Being nominated for an Australia Day Award is a great honour and it’s a wonderful way to celebrate our inspiring community.
“This year’s awardees were all recognised for their selfless dedication to helping their communities. Their efforts included empowering young people, providing food to those in need and volunteering for a range of local groups.
“If you know someone who tirelessly dedicates their time to helping others, please consider nominating them. This is our chance to thank those who give back without a second thought.”
Nominations should include details about the person’s service to the community or an exceptional accomplishment over the past 12 months.
