Nominations open for Migration Advice Industry Advisory Group

Public nominations are now open for representatives from across the migration advice industry and the wider community to form a new Migration Advice Industry Advisory Group.

Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety and Multicultural Affairs, Jason Wood said he had been working closely with the migration advice industry to ensure it can support Australia’s migration program.

“The establishment of this advisory group reaffirms the government’s commitment to work collaboratively with agents and community,” he said.

“Together we can build the industry’s reputation and ensure a robust regulatory migration advice framework that prevents misconduct and unlawful advice.

“It is in Australia’s best interests to maintain a well-respected and trusted industry so that clients can have confidence in the advice and services they receive.”

This announcement follows a public consultation to inform the Department’s examination of how legislation can support a highly qualified and professional industry and ensure the government can effectively combat misconduct and unlawful operators.

“We need to build on existing industry standards and develop initiatives that will combat serious misconduct by a small number of registered agents and unlawful providers, which will provide greater protection for consumers,” he said.

Nominations for the advisory group close on 4 September 2020. Nomination forms are available on the Department of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Affairs website:
