Businesses have the chance to become North Queensland’s number one supporter, with naming rights up for grabs at Australia’s newest stadium.
North Queensland Stadium is on track for completion ahead of the 2020 ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Rugby League (NRL) Premiership season and will host Sir Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour on February 29.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said Stadiums Queensland was now seeking expressions of interest from businesses wanting to support the North Queensland region and take their brands to the next level.
“This time next year the Cowboys will be on-field playing in front of thousands of fans,” Mr Stewart said.
“The successful naming rights sponsor will be aligned with a popular Queensland team in a top-level competition, as well as other major events at the venue.
“We are, of course, welcoming the Rocketman himself on February 29, which I can guarantee will be a sell-out.
“This is an exciting opportunity for a brand to be at the centre of a transformative inner-city entertainment precinct.”
Mr Stewart said the project was attracting development opportunities to Townsville, including hotels, restaurants and bars.
“Our region is a tourism hotspot and we anticipate the stadium to host various sporting matches and concerts as well as functions and community events,” he said.
“There’s an opportunity to leverage those markets to reach new customers and improve brand recognition.
“Naming rights come with a host of promotional and marketing opportunities including venue signage and branding, corporate hospitality and both national and local media coverage.”
Minister for Sport, Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said he expected the stadium’s naming rights to be an attractive option for a range of industries.
“This stadium will first and foremost the home of the Cowboys, but can also be the major event capital for the North Queensland region.” Mr de Brenni said.
“Major sporting and entertainment venues are always evolving in what is a competitive environment and it’s particularly crucial for special events content that a high standard is maintained,
“We’ll make sure funds from the partnership are rightly put back into the venue. That’s about ensuring North Queenslanders get a world class experience every time they visit.
“This flagship Palaszczuk Government project has already engaged more than 480 local businesses during design and construction, supporting 750 full-time equivalent jobs – a tremendous boost to the Townsville and regional economy.”
