Northern Territory Housing Alliance Established

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is working to make the Northern Territory the easiest place in Australia to build and buy a home.

To make sure we have the right policies and incentives in place to allow for accelerated land release, the Territory Government has today established the Northern Territory Housing Alliance.

The role of the Northern Territory Housing Alliance is to bring together stakeholders from the building, community housing, social services and industry sector to share knowledge, resources and ideas aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the Territory’s housing sector.

As this week’s report from Master Builders NT showed, the Territory is heading into an investment and jobs boom. This is the perfect time to make sure we’re doing everything we can to attract people to the Territory, and make sure they can build a future here.

Today, the Chief Minister has also announced Mr Allan McGill as the Chair of the NT Housing Alliance, with further board members to follow.

Mr McGill has over 40 years working in local government with extensive leadership and management skills. He is currently the chair of Venture Housing, and holds roles with the NT Planning Commission and NT Heritage Council.

Reporting directly to the Chief Minister, the objectives of the NT Housing Alliance are to provide advice, identify opportunities and suitable land sites to deliver the required increase in housing, provide recommendations for investment initiatives into housing, and advise on policies and supply chains issues relating to housing delivery.

Land development and sub division works are currently occurring right across the Territory. In Greater Darwin there is land currently in the hands of developers with the potential for over 3,600 lots. Land releases in the Greater Holtze area have the potential to produce more than 11,000 additional lots. Land is also being delivered in Kilgariff in Alice Springs, Chittock Crescent in Tennant Creek and Katherine East.
