The Andrews Labor Government’s massive road maintenance blitz is getting underway throughout northern Victoria to provide safer, smoother and stronger roads.
Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford today announced $57.2 million was being invested in rebuilding, resurfacing and repairing around 268 kilometres of roads across the region as part of the Labor Government’s road maintenance blitz.
This includes rebuilding key stretches of the Sunraysia Highway near Litchfield, Karyrie, Kinnabulla and Curyo. Stretches of Robinvale-Sea lake Road will also be improved between Bannerton and Managatang.
Works will also target the Calder Highway at Nandaly, Donald-Stawell Road and Echuca-Kyabram Road to further support regional Victorian communities and industry.
We know how important country roads are to country communities, that why the Labor Government is continuing our record regional maintenance blitz that last year saw over 297,000 tonnes of asphalt laid and 145,000 potholes fixed.
This year another 1,500 kilometres of roads will be repaired, rebuilt and resurfaced with 1,100 construction jobs to be created as part of this work.
Regional councils are also delivering 133 improvement projects on their municipal roads thanks to round two of the Government’s $100 million Fixing Country Roads program – including rebuilding sections of local roads, sealing gravel roads and strengthening bridges.
Crews will be out in force with reduced speeds and traffic management in place – we ask drivers to adhere to these changed conditions for the safety of roadworkers and the community.
The full program of planned maintenance works is now live on Regional Road Victoria’s online interactive map. For more information, visit regionalroads.vic.gov.au to find out more.
