Traffic on Beechboro Road North will be transferred onto an isolated five-kilometre section of the new Tonkin Highway (NorthLink WA) between Hepburn Avenue and Gnangara Road from 5am tomorrow (January 22).
The portion of Beechboro Road North in Whiteman, north of Jules Steiner Memorial Drive, will permanently close.
From now on, motorists will use the parallel section of Tonkin Highway making it the first section of the NorthLink WA project (north of Reid Highway) to open to traffic.
Motorists and cyclists will be diverted onto the Tonkin Highway alignment for about five kilometres, where, in the interim, they will connect with Gnangara Road via the existing signalised intersection.
This arrangement will remain in place until construction of the new Gnangara Road interchange is complete, towards the middle of 2019.
Access to the Cullacabardee community and Whiteman Park hobby clubs will still be available via Hennessy Road. Meanwhile, access to Hepburn Avenue and Tonkin Highway from Hennessy Road will be possible via a designated U-turn facility on Beechboro Road North.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“This is another milestone for the NorthLink WA project, which is on track for completion by late 2019.
“This new section of Tonkin Highway is not yet complete, so please obey the road signs and drive carefully.
“Nearby residents will be kept up-to-date and further information can be found on the or by joining the NorthLink WA community group on Facebook.”
