Now Hiring: Pilliga Campaigner

JOB ROLE

The Pilliga Campaign Organiser will work with the Unions NSW Pilliga Campaign Committee to coordinate and resource the activities of the participating unions.

This role is three (3) days per-week, for a fixed 12-month period to commence as soon as possible. The position will require travel, some weekend and evening work.

The role will be hosted by the Sydney Branch of the Maritime Union of Australia, whilst working under the direction of the Chair of the Unions NSW Pilliga Campaign Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pilliga Campaign Organiser will work with the Unions NSW Pilliga Campaign Committee to:

  • Perform secretariat duties on behalf of the committee
  • Act as the point of contact between the Gomeroi Nation and the Unions NSW Pilliga Campaign Committee
  • Support the Gomeroi Nation to organise and mobilise if and when requested to do so.
  • Work with other relevant organisations and social movements to organise 2-3 mass mobilisations
  • Support and coordinate the committee’s political engagement strategy
  • Build and implement a worker engagement strategy, including worksite mass meetings
  • Coordinate the committee work to deepen and widen the commitment from participating unions.
  • Generate content and organise workers through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc,
  • Assisting with other activities as directed by the Chair of the Unions NSW Pilliga Campaign Committee.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

First Nations people are strongly encouraged to apply, however this role is not a identified First Nations Position.

The primary responsibility of the position is to resource the NSW union movement to more effectively deploy our existing power to stop gas mining in the Pilliga, in solidarity with the Gomeroi Nation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to First Nations struggles for justice and sovereignty
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of the trade union movement.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with First Nations organisations and struggles
  • Demonstrated experience and participation in union, political and/or community campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision to complete allocated tasks.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organisation skills.
  • An ability to generate media content and organise workers through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume workload, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated skills and proficiency with relevant office computer programs.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.

To perform the Campaign Organiser position, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • A valid driver’s license.
