The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will implement a new Smart City Plan to guide the City to becoming more digitally connected and technologically enhanced.
As a smart city, Norwood Payneham & St Peters will join global leaders like London, Toronto, and Tokyo in using infrastructure, innovation, and technology to improve liveability in the city.
Smart cities collect and use data to improve day-to-day activities for visitors and residents.
Some examples of this are:
traffic management: Monitoring the flow of traffic and optimising traffic lights to reduce congestion and create a hassle-free commute
free public Wi-Fi: Providing free access to the internet along major shopping and business precincts to enhance connectivity and access to information
smart parking: Using smartphone apps so that drivers can easily find available parking spaces, and extend their parking times remotely
public charging stations: Smart benches equipped with solar powered charging for devices including smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
“In recent years the Council has implemented several successful technology-based systems and app services,” said Mayor Robert Bria. “We are excited to deliver a Smart City Plan that will improve living and working in Norwood Payneham & St Peters.”
The Smart City Plan will also help see Adelaide join Melbourne and Sydney in leading global technology-based cities in Australia.
