The NRL has a launched a new campaign, encouraging the next generation of referees to make the call and join their local refereeing ranks.

The make the call – be a ref campaign is aimed at informing new and aspiring referees about opportunities aligned with becoming a referee, including the ability to be part of a team, the potential to earn a living as a professional referee and becoming industry recognised.

NRL General Manager, Officiating for Pathways and Development, Tony Archer said that with an increase in competitions and pathways across rugby league, naturally, there were more opportunities for referees

“That’s why we’ve created this campaign – for anyone that has ever thought about becoming a referee – to learn a little more about it,” he said.

“It’s an incredibly rewarding and exciting experience to be part of a match – no matter whether you are refereeing a junior game or a State of Origin – and I’d encourage anyone that has ever thought about refereeing to register their interest and give it a go.”
