An ambitious emissions reduction target in NSW shows what can be achieved with a clear vision and a detailed plan, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.
“The Berejiklian government is setting the standard for creating new opportunities with action across the policy spectrum, and this is just another example.
“It isn’t enough just to set targets, NSW has previously delivered the detailed, investment driven plan that accelerates the deployment of proven, commercial technologies to reach this ambitious goal.
“Driven by new investment and new technology, NSW is charting a path to a lower emissions economy that delivers more jobs, creates new opportunities and builds stronger regions.
“Regional NSW is set to be a net beneficiary from the more ambitious target as the plan delivers renewable energy zones and hydrogen hubs to boost green manufacturing in regional centres.
“NSW’s plan harnesses business capability and private sector capital to drive the transition by creating certainty for investment and opportunities for co-investment between government and business to close technology gaps.
“Reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 must be done in a way that harnesses Australia’s abundant natural resources to boost exports, drives investment in new technologies and delivers a stronger economy with more jobs.
“State and federal governments have made significant steps towards an economy wide pathway to reaching net-zero emissions, business is ready to work with them on a national plan to meet our 2050 commitments.”
