NSW FAIR TRADING, SAFEWORK NSW INSPECTORS VISIT MID NORTH COAST

Department of Customer Service

NSW Fair Trading and SafeWork NSW are visiting the State’s Mid North Coast this week to conduct safety inspections of residential building worksites.

Assistant Building Commissioner Matthew Whitton said these types of inspections help ensure people in regional areas have access to safe and compliant dwellings.

“Inspectors will be focusing on looking for non-compliant building work and safety issues in the Port Macquarie and Kempsey areas this week,” Mr Whitton said.

“In addition, we will be checking electrical installations and tradespeople on site have a valid licence, and that apprentices are being supervised.

“NSW Fair Trading inspectors can issue penalty notices and a range of orders on residential apartment projects under construction, and have the power to require work to stop or to prohibit an occupation certificate being issued.

“SafeWork NSW inspectors will be ensuring work health and safety compliance on construction sites, particularly around key risks such as voids and scaffolding.

“This is only one of many regional inspections we will be holding across the state this year, to give the community confidence that developers and builders are being held to account on key elements during residential construction projects.”
