Communities across the Illawarra are being invited to view the designs for the new Warrawong Community Health Centre, which will deliver enhanced access to health services in the growing region.
The new Community Health Centre will be located on the south east corner of Port Kembla Hospital and is being built as part of the more than $700 million Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project.
Minister for Health, Ryan Park said community feedback has helped shape the design of the new centre, which will bring together a range of community health services within one purpose-built facility to improve and enhance patient experiences.
“It is important that our community is updated about this new community health facility, which has been planned and designed in consultation with health staff and the local community to meet the Illawarra’s future health needs,” Mr Park said.
“The new centre will be a community-focused facility, designed with the best clinical practices in mind to deliver better health outcomes for patients.”
“The perspective and experiences of the community are incredibly valuable to the delivery of these wide ranges of health services .”
The new Warrawong Community Health Centre will provide:
- Child and Family Health Services
- Binji and Boori (Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service)
- Community Nursing
- Community Mental Health
- Sexual Health Service
- Drug and Alcohol Services
- Equipment Loan Pool.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces and Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully invited the community to attend an information session about the project, to learn more about how they will benefit from the development.
“This new clinical space is being built specifically to serve the needs of our community, so I encourage everyone to come along and learn more about this exciting project,” Mr Scully said.
“The facility will play a vital role in improving access to specialised care for the region, something I’ve been highly focused on for a long time.”
The community can find out more about the new Community Health Centre and speak with the project team at an information session to be held at Warrawong Plaza on Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June from 11.00 am to 1.00pm.
Work on the Warrawong Community Health Centre is expected to start later in 2024.
