NSW new albury Hospital redevelopment community consultation begins

The Albury Wodonga community is being encouraged to learn more about the new $558 million hospital for the Border region at a series of drop-in information sessions on the Albury Hospital Campus taking place this month.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the sessions will be an opportunity to hear directly from the Albury Campus project team and learn more about master planning for the state-of-the-art health facilities, which will deliver a new hospital including enhanced clinical services and an improved healthcare experience for border communities.

“This is a major project which will bring together 24/7 services and clinical expertise on a single site to significantly expand and enhance health services and facilities for the Albury Wodonga region,” Minister Park said.

“Work to deliver the region’s new hospital is moving ahead with the project team recently appointed to progress master planning, which is a key milestone in the early planning for this major redevelopment.

“Planning is now underway, enabling us to start construction in 2024 and deliver contemporary new hospital facilities that provide the best possible healthcare environment for the community.”

The master planning stage is the important first step to developing a campus plan that outlines the vision for the site, to deliver a world-class health care hub and improved patient experience for border communities.

Minister Park said extensive community consultation will be conducted throughout the planning for the redevelopment.

“Community consultation is an essential part of planning to ensure this new health facility provides the right infrastructure and services that are tailored to the needs of our communities, staff, patients and their families,” Minister Park said.

Minister Park said planning and building health facilities takes time and careful consideration, and these sessions will provide the community an opportunity to learn more about the project, the planning process and next steps.

“We’re encouraging the community to get involved and meet the team at a series of information drop-in sessions where they can speak directly to us and tell us how we can create a new health facility that best meets the unique needs of the border region,” Minister Park said.

Community drop-in sessions will be held at:

  • Wodonga Plaza on Wednesday, 31 May (10 am – 12 pm)
  • Lavington Square on Wednesday, 31 May (2 pm – 4 pm)
  • White Box Rise Shopping Centre on Thursday, 1 June (10 am-12 pm)
  • Westend Plaza on Thursday, 1 June (2 pm – 4 pm)
  • Myer Centrepoint on Thursday, 1 June (5 pm – 7 pm)

A Project Community Advisory Group for the project is also being established which will provide a patient, carer and community voice, and the community drop-in sessions will include information about how the community can express their interest in getting involved.

The project team was recently appointed following a competitive tender process and includes:

  • Johnstaff Projects as the Project Manager
  • Hassell as the Architects
  • MBM as the Cost Manager
