In a recent announcement by the NSW government, accredited pharmacist vaccinators in NSW will now be able to deliver vaccination services beyond the pharmacy environment, to better protect the most vulnerable of our community.
Pharmacists are now able to deliver vaccination services in settings including Aged Care Facilities, Community Health Centres and Aboriginal Medical Services. Delivery of vaccination services outside the community pharmacy environment must be conducted in an immunisation service room, consulting room or immunisation area of which there are specific room requirements which must be upheld.
Should a pharmacist vaccinator choose to deliver vaccination services at an external setting, it is essential that all regulatory and legislative requirements are successfully upheld and maintained, as outlined in the updated NSW Vaccination Standards. These requirements including CPR requirement, staff requirements, equipment and room requirements, pre-screening and post-screening requirements including accessing and uploading onto the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
