NSW Police and AFP go head-to-head for annual charity boxing fundraiser

NSW Police officers will go head-to-head with their colleagues from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) tonight for the annual NSW Police Boxing Competition fundraiser.

The event – which is in its seventh year – will be held at the North Sydney Leagues Club, Cammeray, in support of NSW Police Legacy and PCYC NSW. The competition will feature 14 bouts, including five which will see NSW Police officers and AFP officers take to the ring.

This year the competition will see 28 fighters get ready to rumble, including NSW Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Brooke Notley, Police Diver, Senior Constable Timothy Boardman, and Fairfield City Police Area Command’s, Senior Constable David Cafferatta.

Each of the fighters have undertaken a gruelling 12-week training program before putting their bodies on the line for two great causes.

Since the competition began in 2013, more than $533,000 has been raised for NSW Police Legacy and PCYC NSW.

NSW Police Boxing President and The Hume Police District Commander, Superintendent Chris Schilt, said the night has become a hallmark event in the policing calendar since its inception seven years ago.

“Last year alone, our boxers raised more than $120,000 for our police family – which is an incredible effort that we hope to replicate tonight,” Supt Schilt said.

“This year, we have 28 eager new fighters – including our colleagues at the Australian Federal Police – jumping in the ring in support of our men and women in blue and their families.

“NSW Police Legacy and PCYC NSW sit at the heart of the NSW Police Force, and we are proud to have the opportunity to give back to the charities that provide ongoing and unwavering support to our officers.

“Tonight’s fight is not only an opportunity for members of the community to show their support to these charities by donating, but also highlights the dedication of police in serving the community,” Supt Schilt said.

Doors open at 5.30pm today (Wednesday 20 November 2019) at North Sydney Leagues Club (12 Abbott Street, Cammeray).
