Police are appealing for information after a carjacking and series of armed robberies and attempted carjacking’s across Sydney last night.
Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were notified after a 48-year-old man entered his parked Citroen C4 on Harris Street, near MacArthur Street, Ultimo, when an unknown armed man approached his window just before 9.30pm (Monday 7 January 2019).
The armed man opened the driver’s door and threatened the driver with a knife, before demanding him out of the Citroen and driving away south on Harris Street.
An hour later, just after 10.30pm, a 47-year-old man and woman were seated in a black Mercedes GLC outside a fast food restaurant on Concord Road, North Strathfield, when an unknown man approached the driver’s window.
Police have been told he threatened the driver and lunged at him with a knife through the open window.
The 47-year-old man drove away with the woman in the Mercedes unharmed.
Further reports were received that an unknown man armed with a knife approached two men – aged 22 and 24 – outside a restaurant on Rider Boulevard, Rhodes, about 10.45pm.
The armed man stole cash from the men and fled in the Citroen travelling north on Rider Boulevard.
A short time later, a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were sitting in an Audi RS6 parked on Rider Boulevard, near Mary Street, Rhodes, when an unknown man armed with a knife approached them and opened the driver’s door.
The pair exited the car and the man fled with cash in the Citroen parked nearby.
No one was injured during any of the incidents.
Detectives from Burwood Police Area Command are investigating the incidents, which they believe are linked, and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
They would like to speak to a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 45 and 60, and wearing a collared shirt, who they believe can assist them with their inquiries.
Anyone with information about the vehicle, described as a blue 2005 Citroen C4 hatchback with NSW registration 00 OZO, is urged to contact police.
