NSW police appeal after woman assaulted at CBD venue

Police are appealing for information after two staff members were assaulted at a licensed premise in Sydney’s CBD on Saturday.

About 9.30pm (Saturday 20 June 2020), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command attended the licensed venue on Hay Street, Haymarket, following reports of an assault.

Police were told that throughout the evening, an unknown male patron had consumed alcohol inside the venue before becoming rowdy and intoxicated.

When staff declined to serve him more alcohol, the man became aggressive and punched one staff member – a woman aged 35 – to the back of the head, causing her to fall and hit her head on the bar sink.

At this time, another member of staff – a man aged 31 – tried to intervene, before the unknown male began throwing punches at him and then stood on the woman’s leg as she was lying on the floor.

The unknown man then left the venue.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman for swelling and bruising to her head and an ankle injury. She was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

As inquiries continue, police have released CCTV vision of a man who might be able to assist with the investigation.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 40s, 180cm-185cm tall, of a solid build, with greying hair and a beard. He is seen wearing a blue jumper, dark pants and black shoes, and walking with the aid of a walking stick.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Sydney City Police:
