A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery and assault in Tumut yesterday.
Police were told about 8pm (Tuesday 25 January 2022), a 67-year-old man was allegedly threatened with a knife, assaulted, and had his wallet and keys stolen by another man at a camp site on the Tumut River, off East Blowering Road.
The man left the scene in a Toyota HiAce van, travelling towards Tumut.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District responded and observed the Toyota travelling on East Blowering Road.
The Toyota was stopped nearby before the driver exited the vehicle and entered the nearby Tumut River.
Police pursued the man on foot for a short time, before PolAir assisted in the search and sighted the man in bushland. The man allegedly re-entered the water however was arrested about 11.45pm on a nearby property.
Police seized two vehicles, which will be forensically examined.
The 58-year-old man was taken to Tumut Police Station and charged with Assault occasioning actual bodily harm, larceny and aggravated robbery.
The Bondi man was refused bail and will appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 27 January 2022).
The older man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene for head injuries.
