A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting police and resisting arrest in the state’s south yesterday.
About 5.15pm (Friday 1 November 2019), officers from the Police Transport Command attempted to stop and speak with a man on Burelli Street, Wollongong, after he allegedly stole from a nearby supermarket.
Police will allege the man became aggressive towards the two senior constables, using a metal and glass picture frame to assault them.
Following a short scuffle, he was arrested at the scene and taken to Wollongong Police station where he was charged with assault police, resist arrest, malicious damage and use weapon to avoid arrest.
The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Bail Court today (Saturday 2 November 2019).
Both officers were treated for minor injuries.
