A man has been charged after allegedly attacking a police officer with a knife in Ryde last month.
About 8.45am on Wednesday 21 August 2019, officers from Ryde Police Area Command were on Culloden Road near Waterloo Road, Marsfield, when they observed a man walking in the middle of the roadway.
Officers approached the man and asked him to move to the footpath and when they attempted to guide him off the road, a physical altercation took place and he allegedly struck a male constable with a knife to the arm, causing a puncture wound.
A Taser was deployed, and the 24-year-old man was arrested and transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for assessment.
The officer suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Yesterday (Wednesday 18 September 2019), the man was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assault officer in execution of duty and wound police officer executing duty causing actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 19 September 2019).
