NSW police charge man after attempted armed robbery, break and enter at Orange

A man has been charged following investigations into the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver and an attempted break and enter in the state’s Central West.

About 2.30am Monday (23 September 2019), a taxi driver collected a man from Coulson Place, Orange who requested to be taken to Glenroi.

The passenger directed the driver to stop near Orchard Grove Road and demanded cash from the driver.

The driver got out of the taxi and was confronted by the passenger who threatened him with a large carving knife.

The driver sounded an alarm and the man fled the location on foot.

About 11.30am yesterday (Tuesday 24 September 2019), police received reports a man had been disturbed while attempting to break into a home on Dalton Street.

The home’s occupant confronted the man who ran from the location.

Officers from the Central West Police District and Dog Unit attended the location and commenced inquiries.

A short time later, police arrested the 27-year-old man at a nearby unit block on Dalton Street.

Police will allege drugs and a hatchet were seized when the man was searched.

He was taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged in relation to both offences, including:

  • Aggravated break and enter with intent
  • Possess prohibited drug (x2)
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
  • Possess housebreaking implements
  • Robbery armed with offensive weapon
  • Intimidation
  • Fraud

The man was bail refused to appear before Orange Local Court today (Wednesday 25 September 2019).
