A man has been charged after damaging property within a building in the state’s south yesterday.
Shortly after 2pm (Thursday 16 January 2020), police were called to a government building on Burelli Street, Wollongong, following reports a man had doused the carpet with fuel.
On-site security apprehended the man and removed him from the building.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and shortly after, spoke to a 57-year-old man nearby on Stewart and Kembla streets.
Upon searching the man, officers allegedly located matches and a lighter in his jacket pockets.
The man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
He was charged with possess article with intent to destroy/damage others property, destroy or damage property and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).
The 57-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 4 February 2020.
The building was evacuated at the time and no one was injured.
