NSW police charge man after domestic violence assault of two women at Thirlmere

Officers from the North West Metropolitan Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team have charged a man with domestic violence offences after an incident in Sydney’s south west last month.

It will be alleged that around 2.30am on Saturday 21 March 2020, the man, aged 35, attended a property on Oaks Road, Thirlmere, and allegedly assaulted two women.

Police allege the man – the ex-partner of one of the women – refused to leave the property and grabbed one woman, aged 33, and forced her to the ground, before grabbing her throat and threatening her with a knife.

When a second woman, aged 28, attempted to intervene, she was allegedly struck in the face and pushed in the chest by the man.

The women were able to run from the man before he left in a white utility.

The women sustained minor injuries.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command were alerted to the incident and commenced an investigation with assistance from the North West Metropolitan Domestic Violence High-Risk Offender team.

Following extensive inquiries, about 11pm on Saturday 4 April 2020, a perimeter was established at a townhouse complex on St Martins Crescent, Blacktown, with help from North West Metropolitan Operational Support Group, Public Order and Riot Squad, Police Dog Unit, Polair and Highway Patrol.

A 35-year-old man was arrested when he allegedly tried to make his way toward a suspected stolen vehicle parked nearby.

He was arrested and taken to Blacktown Hospital for assessment before he was taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences:

  • Enter dwelling with intent
  • Two counts of common assault (DV)
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Intentionally choke without consent (DV)
  • Resist arrest
  • Take and drive conveyance
  • Goods in custody

The man, from Pitt Town, was refused bail to appear at Picton Local Court on Tuesday 14 April 2020.
