NSW police charge man after firing a shotgun and intimidating visitors

A man will face court today charged after allegedly discharging a firearm and intimidating a couple visiting a property in the Central Tablelands at the weekend.

Police have been told a 53-year-old man attended a property at Triangle Flat, near Rockley, on Saturday (7 December 2019), to pick up a vintage vehicle, which was being stored in a shed.

The man picked up the car without incident, but after realising a badge was missing, he returned to the property with his partner – a 52-year-old woman – about 4.45pm.

The pair went to another homestead on the property and spoke with the 62-year-old male resident, who allegedly became aggressive and scuffled with the younger man, before the couple started to drive from the location.

When the woman exited the car to open a gate, the older man allegedly pointed a shotgun at her before firing a shot over her head.

The younger man and woman, who weren’t physically injured, fled the property and contacted police.

Officers from Chifley Police District commenced inquiries and the 62-year-old man attended Rockley Police Station yesterday (Sunday 8 December 2019).

A short time later, investigators executed a crime scene warrant at the property, where they seized a single-barrel 12-guage shotgun with a discharged cartridge inside, and cannabis.

The man was arrested and transferred to Bathurst Police Station, where he was charged with use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property, common assault, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess prohibited drug.

He has been refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court today (Monday 9 December 2019).
