A man will face court today charged after allegedly crashing his car into a bus and fleeing, leaving his passenger trapped.
About 7.30am Friday (13 March 2020) a black BMW was travelling north on Wodonga Place, Albury, when it allegedly lost control while negotiating a roundabout and crashed into the back of a bus.
The driver fled on foot and was chased by members of the public, who detained the man until officers from Murray River Police District arrived a short time later.
The 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Hospital under police guard for injuries sustained in the crash.
The female passenger was freed after being left trapped in the vehicle with injuries to her pelvis.
She was treated at the scene, before also being taken to hospital with a dislocated pelvis.
The driver of the bus was uninjured.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers seized ammunition, fireworks, knives and prohibited weapons from the vehicle.
On his release from hospital on Saturday (14 March 2020), the 38-year-old man was charged with:
– Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period,
– Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
– Not give particulars to other driver,
– Steal from motor vehicle,
– Receive etc property stolen outside NSW,
– Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit,
– Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority,
– Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle,
– Use uninsured motor vehicle.
He was refused bail and is due to face Albury Local Court today (Monday 16 March 2020).
