NSW police charge man after investigation into shooting at Griffith

A man has been charged over an alleged public place shooting in the state’s Murrumbidgee region earlier this month.

About 2.30am Tuesday 19 April 2022, four youths attended Albion Grove Park, Griffith, and were allegedly threatened by a man armed with a handgun.

Police have been told a shot was fired when the man ran into a backyard of a home on Dunvarleigh Crescent; however, there no one was injured.

The matter was reported to officers from Murrumbidgee Police District late the following day (Wednesday 20 April 2022), and police began an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Highway Patrol were conducting patrols along Murrumbidgee Avenue near Coolah Street, when they pulled over a Blue Mazda 3, just before midday yesterday (Wednesday 27 April 2022) and spoke with the 27-year-old driver.

He was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with four offences:

  • Fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property,
  • Possess unauthorised firearm,
  • Possess loaded firearm public place, and,
  • Use unauthorised firearm

The man appeared in Griffith Local Court today (Thursday 28 April 2022), where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court on Wednesday 18 May 2022.
