A man is due in court today charged after a rifle, drugs and credit cards were seized following a police operation at Tamworth overnight.
Detectives from Oxley Police District, working with police from Oxley Domestic Violence Unit, Region Enforcement Squad (RES), Target Action Group (TAG), officers from Werris Creek and Quirindi, highway patrol and general duties officers, initiated inquiries after information was provided from the public.
A blue commodore utility – which had been reported stolen from Laidley in Queensland at the weekend – was seen driving along Robert Street about 2.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 May 2019).
When the vehicle was searched, police seized a rifle and cannabis.
A 35-year-old man was arrested in the loading dock of a supermarket on Robert Street about 3pm (Wednesday 8 May 2019).
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with six offences:
· Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
· Possess unregistered firearm – not prohibited firearm/pistol
· Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
· Not keep firearm safely – not prohibited firearm/pistol
· Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic)
· Possess prohibited drug
The man, from Werris Creek, was refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court today.
