A man has been charged with dangerous driving, speeding and drug offences after a pursuit in Sydney’s south-west early this morning.
About 2am (Wednesday 14 October 2020), officers from Bankstown Police Area Command stopped the driver of a BMW sedan on Orchardleigh Street, Yennora, after he was allegedly driving dangerously.
When police got out of their vehicle to speak with the driver, he allegedly drove away.
Officers commenced a pursuit but terminated it a short time later due to safety concerns.
The man allegedly drove at 160km/h in a 70km/h zone on Woodville Road, Georges Hall, before running a red light at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Henry Lawson Drive.
A short time later, police found the vehicle on its roof after it crashed on Henry Lawson Drive.
The sole passenger in the car, a 29-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital with wrist injuries.
During a search of the vehicle, police found methamphetamine, a bottle believed to contain GBL and a cutthroat razor.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, had allegedly fled the scene but was located with the assistance of the Dog Unit in a nearby creek a short time later.
He was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug – indictable & commercial quantity, possess prohibited drug, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 14 October 2020).
