A man has been charged following an alleged stabbing and assault on a street in Mangerton.
About 6.50am yesterday (Monday 7 October 2019) a 29-year-old woman was walking along Myuna Way, Mangerton when she was approached by a 37-year-old man, who was allegedly holding a piece of solid timber.
The man allegedly struck the woman in the side of the head with the piece of timber.
A 40-year-old man ran over to assist the woman, before engaging in a physical altercation with the 37-year-old man.
The 37-year-old man allegedly pulled a large knife out of his pants and stabbed the man above his collarbone, before entering the unit block and stabbing the man a second time through a glass door.
Police attended and established a crime scene. The 40-year-old man and 29-year-old woman were taken to hospital for treatment by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.
The 40-year-old man sustained lacerations to his forehead and collarbone and required surgery, while the 29-year-old woman sustained injuries to the back of her head.
About 11.25am (Monday 7 October 2019), the 37-year-old man exited a unit on Myuna Way and was arrested.
The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and was later charged with affray, malicious damage, common assault and resist police.
He was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 8 October 2019).
It is believed the man was known to the two victims.
Police inquiries are continuing.
