A man is due to appear in court tomorrow charged over an alleged break, enter and stealing at a home south-east of Wagga Wagga.
Police will allege a man broke into a rural property on Old Tumbarumba Road, Batlow, about 3.30pm yesterday (Thursday 2 January 2020).
Police allege the man entered the home after the residents had left the property due to bushfires, before leaving in the resident’s sedan.
A short time later, officers from Riverina Police District observed a Ford Falcon sedan being driven erratically along Old Tumbarumba Road, Batlow. Soon after, officers found the sedan had crashed into a tree.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found a backpack containing jewellery, documents and ammunition alleged to have been stolen.
The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital before being released into police custody and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
The man has now been charged with nine offences;
• Enter building with intent to commit indictable offence
• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
• Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
• Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
• Deal with property proceeds of crime
• Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit
• Possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs
• Self-administer/attempt self-administer prohibited drug
• Break enter and steal
The man, from Tumut, was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 4 January 2020).
