A man has been charged after a unit fire in the state’s far south overnight.
Emergency services were called to Thurgoona Street, Albury around 7.45pm yesterday (Sunday 29 March 2020) after reports of a fire inside a unit block.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and the fire was extinguished around 8.45pm by Fire and Rescue NSW.
The unit was completely destroyed by the fire and no one was injured.
Police spoke to the resident of the unit, a 37-year-old man, who was later arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.
He was charged with damage property by fire and granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 15 June 2020.
Police will allege the man started the fire using wood and methylated spirits as an accelerant and that he failed to call for assistance, despite holding his mobile phone while watching the unit burn from the outside.
