A man will face court today charged after a war memorial was allegedly defaced in the state’s west yesterday.
About 3pm (Thursday 20 July 2019), police were called to Russell Street at Bathurst, after reports a man was allegedly seen spray painting a war memorial within Machattie Park.
Officers from Chifley Police District responded and whilst patrolling, spoke to a man in Simpsons Lane.
As police identified themselves, the man allegedly armed himself with a golf club.
The 39-year-old man was restrained and arrested. The officers were not injured.
During a search of his property, officers allegedly located spray paint, cannabis, and various pieces of drug paraphernalia.
The man was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was charged with wilfully damage or deface any protected place, destroy or damage property, use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, supply prohibited drug, and possess prohibited drug.
He has been refused bail to appear in Bathurst Local Court today (Friday 21 June 2019).
