A man has been charged over a suspicious house fire in the state’s south early last year.
About 6.35pm on Thursday 18 February 2021, emergency services were called to Sutherland Street, Lavington, following reports a house was well alight.
Fire crews attended and extinguished the blaze, however the property sustained extensive damage.
No one was home at the time, and the property was believed to be vacant.
Officers from Murray River Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic police.
The cause of the fire was determined as suspicious, and officers established Strick Force Bingle to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Following extensive inquiries, including a public appeal for information, detectives arrested a 32-year-old man in Lavington, on Saturday (3 December 2022).
He was charged with steal property in dwelling – house, break and enter house etc, and break and enter house etc destroy etc property – serious indictable offence.
The man appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court via audio visual link (AVL) yesterday (Sunday 4 December 2022), where he was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 6 December 2022).
