NSW police charge man over assault of police, property offences at Albury

A wanted man will appear in court today charged over alleged property offences and the assault of a police officer in the state’s Murray River region earlier this month.

In July, officers from Murray River Police District commenced investigations in several property-related offences committed throughout the Albury area.

As part of inquiries, police spoke to a 28-year-old man on Friday 8 July 2022, where it will be alleged he assaulted a male constable by kicking him. The officer was not seriously injured.

Following inquiries, Albury Police – alongside the Domestic Violence Action Team – attended a unit on Olive Street, South Albury, and located a man hiding in a bathroom, about 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 26 July 2022).

The man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with;

  • Shoplifting,
  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal (two counts),
  • Larceny,
  • Possess prohibited drug,
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime, and,
  • Possess implements to enter/drive conveyance.

An outstanding warrant was also executed for destroy or damage property, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and two counts of larceny.

The Albury man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Wednesday 27 July 2022).
