NSW police charge man over child abuse offences at Broken Hill

A man has been charged over alleged child abuse offences following an investigation in the state’s far west.

In March 2019, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) were alerted to the alleged online activity of a man in Broken Hill, which was referred to officers at Barrier Police District.

Following inquiries, a 27-year-old man was arrested at a house on Garnet Street, Broken Hill, about 10.30am today (Tuesday 13 August 2019) and taken to Broken Hill Police Station.

Following his arrest, a search warrant was executed at the house, where police located and seized electronic devices including a laptop and mobile phone.

The man was charged with use carriage service to groom a child under 16 years, disseminate child abuse material and possession of child abuse material.

He was refused bail and appeared before Broken Hill Local Court today (Tuesday 13 August 2019), where he was granted conditional bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 15 October 2019.
