NSW police charge man over kidnap, carjack in north-west Sydney

A man is due in court today charged after allegedly kidnapping a woman at Macquarie Park and demanding cash.

Police have been told a 36-year-old woman was leaving a shopping centre carpark on Waterloo Road about 1.30pm yesterday (Friday 18 October 2019), when a man got into the back seat and allegedly threatened her with a knife.

He directed her to drive to Ermington where he allegedly bound her hands with cable ties, before removing the ties and directing her to withdraw cash from a bank.

The woman entered the bank at Ermington about 2.15pm and alerted a staff, who called police.

The man was arrested by officers attached to the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), as he tried to drive away in the woman’s car.

He was taken to Granville Police Station by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command where he’s been charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage, aggravated take motor vehicle with person in it/armed with weapon, and robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The man, from Lindfield, has been bail refused and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 19 October 2019).
