A man is due to appear in court today charged over the alleged assault of a taxi driver in Sydney’s CBD on Monday night.
The charges relate to an incident about 11pm (Monday 6 June 2022), when a taxi picked up a man and a woman on Hunter Street.
After driving a short distance, the taxi stopped on Macquarie Street, where the 53-year-old driver was involved in an argument with the passengers before he was allegedly assaulted, suffering head and facial injuries.
Following a public appeal for assistance, a 27-year-old man presented himself to Surry Hills Police Station about 11.40pm and was arrested.
He was charged with affray and has been refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Wednesday 8 June 2022).
The injured driver was treated for concussion and has now been released from hospital.
