NSW police charge man with break and enter, prohibited weapons offences at Lake Illawarra

Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found to be in possession of prohibited weapons, ammunition and proceeds from a break and enter in the Illawarra Region.

On Wednesday 28 October 2020, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation into a break and enter offence at two industrial machinery sheds on Bong Bong Road, Huntley.

Police were told a number of laser levels, power tools and hand tools and a large tool-box were allegedly stolen, valued at approximately $70,000.

Later that morning about 8.30am, police stopped a man driving a Toyota Prado wagon at Lake Heights.

Following a search of the male driver and passenger in the vehicle, police conducted a further search of a Toyota Hilux wagon, which was parked in a nearby driveway.

Officers located a large tool-box in the tray of the vehicle, which police will allege in Court was taken from the industrial machinery sheds.

Police later conducted a search warrant on the house, and located a drop saw, laser levels, a number of battery-operated power tools, two extendable batons, shot-gun ammunition and other equipment.

Officers arrested a 32-year old man. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with seven offences including:

  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence,
  • Goods in custody,
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts),
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority,
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts).

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday 29 October 2020.
