A man will face court today charged after allegedly assaulting another man with a machete during an altercation in Albury.
About 8pm yesterday (Sunday 23 February 2020) a group of men were socialising at a unit on Olive Street, Albury.
Two of the men allegedly began to argue, before a physical altercation took place.
A 53-year-old man allegedly struck a 45-year-old man with a machete a number of times.
The 45-year-old man sustained lacerations and a fracture to his arm.
The 53-year-old man fled the scene on foot, while the 45-year-old man attended a nearby residence and sought assistance.
Officers from Murray River Police District attended and established a crime scene.
The 45-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Albury Hospital.
About 10.45pm police located the 53-year-old man hiding in a nearby unit.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for monitoring due to his level of intoxication and for treatment to his hand.
The 53-year-old man was later charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence.
He was refused bail and is due to face Albury Local Court today (Monday 24 February 2020).
Inquiries are continuing.
