The Police Transport Command (PTC) has charged more than 60 people and seized weapons and drugs during a three-day operation across the public transport network in Sydney’s west and south-west.
Operation Invertice saw more than 120 officers from PTC deployed across Mt Druitt, Merrylands, Blacktown, Fairfield and Cabramatta to target anti-social behaviour, violence and weapons offences.
The high-visibility operation was conducted with assistance from the Dog Unit between Thursday (24 September 2020) and Saturday (26 September 2020).
During the operation, officers charged a number of people for a range of offences, including drugs and weapons possession, hinder police and breach of bail offences.
Incidents of note include:
- About 2pm on Thursday 24 September 2020, police searched a 20-year-old man on Main Street, Blacktown, and found a knife. He was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station, where he was charged with possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Blacktown Local Court on Thursday 15 October 2020.
- About 3:50pm on Thursday 24 September 2020, a 14-year-old boy was arrested after he was allegedly found with a knuckle duster. He was taken to Blacktown Police Station, where he was charged with possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit. He was issued a court attendance notice to appear in a children’s court on Friday 6 November 2020.
- About 5:45pm on Friday 25 September 2020, officers with the assistance from a police dog found about 70 grams of cannabis in a 40-year-old woman’s backpack at Mt Druitt Railway Station. She was charged with possess prohibited drug and issued a court attendance notice to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 4 November 2020.
The Police Transport Command plan to undertake further operations in the future.
