A man and a woman will appear in court today charged after a toddler allegedly ingested methylamphetamine in the Illawarra region earlier this year.
On Sunday 8 September 2019, police were notified after a 16-month-old boy presented to Wollongong Hospital, believed to have ingested an unknown substance.
Toxicology tests revealed the toddler had ingested methylamphetamine. He has since been released from hospital and alternate care arrangements have been made.
Detectives from Lake Illawarra Police District and the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation into the incident.
As part of their investigation, detectives executed a crime scene warrant at a home at Dapto, where they seized a small amount of methylamphetamine.
Following extensive inquiries, a man and a woman – both aged 30 and known to the child – were charged on Wednesday 30 October 2019.
They were both issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for take action that results in health/physical damage, and self-administer/attempt self-administer prohibited drug.
The pair are due to appear at Port Kembla Local Court today (Wednesday 11 December 2019).
