A man and a woman have been charged after a police vehicle was allegedly rammed in Wollongong yesterday.
About 2.50pm (Thursday 30 January 2020), police will allege a marked Highway Patrol vehicle was rammed by a Holden Commodore sedan on Flinders Street, Wollongong.
The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt; however, the vehicle was significantly damaged.
Another highway patrol vehicle pursued the Commodore north along Flinders Street and into Montague Street, where the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
Shortly after, the vehicle was located in Ocean Park, Woonona, where three people allegedly ran from the scene.
A perimeter was established by officers from Wollongong Police District, Aviation Support Branch and the Dog Unit.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on Franklin Avenue, Bulli and a 30-year-old woman was arrested on nearby Bulli Beach. Both were taken to Wollongong Police Station.
The man was charged with two counts of drive in a manner dangerous, two counts of not stop and exchange details, drive whilst disqualified, use weapon to avoid apprehension, take and drive conveyance without consent, misleading registration plate, goods in custody, and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.
The woman was charged with carried in conveyance taken without consent.
Both were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 31 January 2020)
Investigations are continuing.
