Six teenagers have been charged with break and enter and malicious damage offences after a school was vandalised in Sydney’s west.
Between 5pm and 10pm on Wednesday 23 September 2020, police were told eight people ransacked a school on Hamilton Road, Fairfield West, allegedly damaging classrooms, spray-painting walls, and smashing property.
The extent of the damage is estimated to be between $40,000 – $50,000.
Officers attached to Fairfield City police Area Command attended and observed up to eight people running through the school.
With assistance from PolAir, two young males, both aged 17, were arrested hiding in a park on Sadlier Crescent nearby.
They were taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter, malicious damage, stealing and graffiti.
The males were refused bail and appeared in a children’s court yesterday (Thursday 24 September 2020) where they were granted conditional bail to reappear in a children’s court on Monday 2 November 2020.
Following inquiries, police attended the school yesterday (Thursday 24 September 2020), and arrested a further two students, also aged 17.
A short time later, a fifth 17-year-old attended Fairfield Police Station where he was also arrested.
A sixth man, aged 18, was arrested at a home in Casula.
All four were taken to Fairfield Police Station where they were also charged with aggravated break and enter, malicious damage, stealing and graffiti.
The 18-year-old man was granted conditional bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Monday 12 October 2020.
The three 17-year-olds were granted conditional bail and are due to appear in a children’s court on Monday 2 November 2020.
Inquiries are continuing and two males remain outstanding.
