Three people have been charged and two police officers injured following a public order incident at Surry Hills overnight.
About 1am (Saturday 14 November 2020), police were called to a unit complex on Nobbs Street, following complaints about loud noise coming from a party.
Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command attended and when speaking with a male occupant at the door, a female constable was pulled inside the unit. OC Spray was deployed, and the occupants released the officer before retreating back inside the unit, locking the door.
Further police attended to assist, including officers from nearby Sydney City, Surry Hills, Kings Cross Police Area Commands and the Public Order and Riot Squad.
After initially refusing, the occupants – estimated at more than 100 people – began leaving the unit and the crowd was dispersed by police.
A 19-year-old woman was treated by paramedics after reportedly suffering a panic attack.
She was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, along with a female and male constable suffering minor injuries. They have since been released.
Three people were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
A 19-year-old woman was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14 and behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school.
She is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 21 January 2021.
A second 19-year-old woman was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14 and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
She is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 28 January 2021.
A 24-year-old man was charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 20 January 2021.
Initial inquiries indicate the premises was being used as a short-term rental. Inquiries continue.
